A modern school, which is constantly learning and renewable, child-oriented, applying distinctive programs in developing holistic education and modern competences, based on the national and European values.
SCHOOL MISSION
Following the guidelines of communicative pedagogy, the school seeks to develop an honest, broad-minded, creatively thinking personality, capable of speaking several key foreign languages and perceiving the diversity of the world cultures, feeling both responsibility and ability to integrate into the national and global society and take an active part in it.
VIRTUES AND PHILOSOPHY
The school is being created sharing responsibility among teachers, parents and students, where mutual relationships are based on trust and respect. The core of the school renewal is the continuous improvement in learning and teaching. The prior values include pursuing freedom and truth, professionalism, personal integrity and communication.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Kaunas Juozas Urbšys Catholic Basic School has a friendly staff of 52 teachers and 678 students at the present moment. The headmaster of school is Mr. Paulius Martinaitis.
The chaplain Mr. Pedro Pich contributes to the school Catholic mission which is based on developing Christian values. The students take an active part in public Campaigns of Kindness, Tolerance, etc. The school community has a new tradition of participating in Christian Retreat Sessions.
The pupils, who have chosen the programme of artistic education, have an extended teaching of such key subjects as art, music, dance and theatre. The members of this programme have a distinguishing competences in regional and national events. Representing their school, they often become the winners of different art competitions and festivals. Every school year ends with a creative camp “School in Nature”.
The school applies the methodology of Dr. Edward De Bono, the aim of which is to improve children’s thinking abilities and creativity skills. It is a simple, effective lateral thinking methodology that helps students to be more productive, focused, and mindfully involved in the learning process. This method is being used from the primary classes.
Though having little international projects’ experience, the teachers and students hope to gain some working in the new Erasmus+ project “Inventions and Cultural Behaviour”.
